In our last blog entry we stressed the importance of staying happy and healthy both in body and soul. In this article will give you more tips on how to feel better and make the most out of our lives on a daily basis. What does ‘looking after ourselves’ mean? Sounds like a simple priority but it does require effort from your part.
What does it mean: ‘looking after myself’?
It means to love and take care of myself, to listen to my body and my soul and to meet my needs without making comparisons to others. There is no need to be perfect, we are human after all! It is important not to forget that, because a healthy state of mind and soul means I am able to look after my body. Let’s not forget, we know ourselves much better than anyone else and we are the best people to take care of ourselves. It means that I know and respect myself and my needs and I have confidence. To achieve this, first of all you will need to listen to yourself and identify your needs. Then you need to think of the ways to meet these needs and take action. For example, if I feel down because I am not happy with the way I look and feel, I can start exercising and eat healthy foods. Then I might want to renew my wardrobe or visit a hairdresser more often. Sometimes, a chat with a friend or nature walks will cheer me up and make me feel better. To stay happy and healthy is important for our well-being. Recent studies have shown that some illnesses can be caused by stress and neglect of ourselves as well poor mental health.
Last but not least – a useful checklist to help me look after myself :
- Eat healthy and tasty food
- Exercise
- Get enough sleep
- Have a good hygiene routine
- Spoil myself
- Allow myself to make mistakes
